We charge
as a percentage of the construction costs, on an hourly rate of
£55 per hour, or as a lump sum, depending on our client’s
preference. Most clients prefer to be charged on an hourly rate
with an agreed fee cap. Invoices are issued monthly or at the end
of key stages of the project.
We normally charge our services with reference to
the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Work Stages. These
divide into four main phases:
1. Inception - establishment
of brief and budget (Stages A-B)
2. Design - development of design (Stages
C-D)
3. Production Information - drawings
and specification for builders to price (Stages E-H)
4. Construction - administration of contract
between client and builder (Stages J-L)
Our fees depend on the size and complexity of the
project in question so it is not possible to specify these before
we have understood your needs. However, as a a rule of thumb, the
fee for a full architectural service on a small domestic project
normally works out at 12-18% of the construction cost. Of this fee,
you might expect 10% to go on Stage 1 (Inception), 30% on Stage
2 (Design), 40% on Stage 3 (Production Information) and 20% on Stage
4 (Construction). |
